Beginning a New Chapter: Between

At the Threshold of a New Passage: Where My Between Identity Finds Voice as a Korean American Artist

For three decades, my journey traced the conflict between self and unconscious- and the path toward their integration. Every image in Circle is an extension of my soul, a record of its presence, a diary of its depths. In May 2024, I brought the Circle series to a close by publishing its final photo book.

While Circle dives inward-into the core of the self and identity-Between turns outward, toward the space between self and country, between self and diaspora.

Now I step away from the self that wandered endlessly through disintegration and awakening in search of the origin of life. I begin a new journey called Between- one in which I face and accept myself just as I am.

Between is the unfolding of that shift-a visual record of seeking for the origin of my inner belonging. It is a voice that rises from silence, in the space of between culture. It is also my mantra, offered to those somewhere in this world who may, perhaps, be just like me.
